New Hire Announcement: Chief of Staff, Doug Erla!

We are happy to announce the most recent hire at St Joseph Financial Services, Doug Erla! Doug joins our leadership team as the Chief of Staff, where he will work to ensure that the team at SJFS is able to best work towards our goal of streamlining the back offices of Catholic institutions.

Read below to get to know Doug, and join us in welcoming him to our team!

Where are you from, and where did you go to college?

I grew up in Michigan but have been a Hoosier for several years.  I completed my undergraduate degree the University of Michigan-Flint and my master’s degree at Central Michigan University.

What drew you to SJFS?

The mission and the people who worked here.  The people at SJFS were authentic and bring a broad-base of experience and talent to what we do each day.

What made you want to join their team and work to further Catholic education?

They perform critical financial functions for the Catholic education sector — freeing those with whom we partner to better execute their core mission within the educational setting.  The tag line, “Minister More…Administer Less” underscores what I see in this team!

What’s a big “win” you’ve been involved with that has had an impact on a parish, Diocese, or Catholic school?

I think I am still on my way to the first “big win!” I attend St Monica parish in Mishawaka, IN and am so fortunate to be part of a solid parish filled with such great and faithful people.  I am a lector and member of the Men’s Club and Knights of Columbus.

What is it like being part of the SJFS team?

It’s a team that embraces comaraderie and a collective willingness to make a difference for our clients we serve around the country.  They work through the challenges and seek to help each — it’s evident every day.

How would you describe the culture and people you work with?

The culture here is made up of people doing work that helps to build the Church — and does so in the spirit of helping others.  What a great goal to have!

What are your goals for your time at SJFS?

My personal goals are to help the team-at-large grow and develop wherever they may be — attract new talent to our team, help implement value-added process improvements while contributing to a great culture.  And…to help grow our reach in the Catholic educational sector across the US in the years ahead.

What do you do in your time away from the office?

I enjoy spending time with my family — participating in parish activities, supporting my lay apostolate and simply being outdoors! Going to the beaches of Lake Michigan in the spring and summer is a favorite!
